Come join Venturers of DRAGONAUTS CREW 333 and Sea Scouts of SSS PHOENIX DRAGON 333 on their Scuba Exploration in earning their PADI Open Water Diver certification.

This event is for BSA Youth (12-20 years old) ONLY from any council regardless of gender who:

1. (a) is at least 12 years old BY SEPTEMBER 1, 2024.
2. (b) have completed/earned the Swimming Merit Badge by 09/01/2024.

SCUBA MERIT BADGE REQUIREMENTS

REQ 2: Before completing Requirements 3-6, earn the Swimming merit badge.

REQ 4: Earn the Open Water Diver Certification from a Scuba Organization recognized by the Boy Scouts of America.

BASIC OPEN WATER DIVER CERTIFICATION

Everyone will bring their own Personal Snorkeling Gear that is properly fitted to themselves on all pool and dive days. You may also purchase the gear on the first day of class. Budget $200 to purchase all 5 pieces.

The BASIC OPEN WATER DIVER PROGRAM is 24-hours of instruction in Class, Pool, and Beach Diving Sessions over TWO consecutive weekends.

You must be able to attend ALL FIVE DAYS as scheduled.

Cost includes

• Rental Gear: Wetsuit, Hood, Weight Belt, Weights, B.C., Regulator System & Tanks.
• PADI Open Water Certification Card.
• (2) Beach Dives on Saturday SEPTEMBER 14 and (2) Beach Dives on Sunday SEPTEMBER 15.
• Merit Badge session with the merit badge counselor is scheduled for SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 22 IN SAN PEDRO.
• Event Patch.
• BSA Nova Engineering Up-And-Away Award session with Nova Award Counselor ON SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 22 IN SAN PEDRO if interested.

Current Venturers/Sea Scouts will also receive the Scuba BSA Award once they have completed the requirements for the BASIC Open Water Diver Credential. Please follow up with your Crew Advisor / Skipper for more details.

NOTES - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

1) SIGN UP ACCORDING TO AGE RANGE AND UNIT REGISTRATION STATUS.

2) MINIMUM REQUIREMENT IS 12 YEARS OLD BY SEPTEMBER 1. 2024 -AND- HAVE EARNED THE SWIMMING MERIT BADGE BY SEPTEMBER 1, 2024.

3) EVERYONE will bring the following on POOL DAYS and DIVE DAYS. (Average budget is $200 to purchase your own).

4) BASIC OPEN WATER DIVER CLASS DATES ARE: 09/07, 09/08, 09/14, 09/15.

• First Weekend is two 8 hour days in San Pedro from 8 AM - 5:00 PM.
• Second Weekend DIVE Days at Laguna Beach or Palos Verdes Beach TBD from 7:00 AM - 1:00 PM.

5) There are NO REFUNDS - UNLESS THE ENTIRE SESSION IS CANCELED.

6) This is NOT a drop off for ANY MINOR. ONE ADULT CHAPERONE (25+) with YPT and AB506 Mandated Reporter Training must be present on site DURING THE ENTIRE DAY. MAXIMUM RATIO IS 4-MINORS (12-17) TO 1-ADULT (25+).

7) THIS 5-DAY SESSION IS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 12-20 YEARS OLD WHO ARE REGISTERED PARTICIPANTS WITH SCOUTING AMERICA WHETHER AS A SCOUT OR SEA SCOUT OR VENTURER.

8) UP TO 2 SCOUTING AMERICA ADULTS AT LEAST 25 YEARS OLD WITH YPT + AB506 COMPLIANCE MAY ALSO SIGN UP TO EARN THEIR PADI OPEN WATER DIVER CREDENTIAL.

9) Waivers must be completed ON/BY SEPTEMBER 1, 2024.

10) Scuba Merit Badge Session with Scuba Merit Badge Counselor is scheduled for SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 22 IN SAN PEDRO.

11) MAXIMUM GROUP SIZE IS 8. Minimum Group Size is 2.

12) $400.00 PARTICIPANT COST INCREASES TO $500.00 PARTICIPANT COST IF SIGNING UP BETWEEN JULY 15 - AUGUST 15, 2024.

ABOUT DRAGONAUTS CREW 333:

Founded in September 2021, Dragonauts Crew 333 is a diverse and inclusive venturing crew for all youth at least 13 years old in Southern California who enjoy STEM-based high adventures including dragonboat racing, whitewater, water sports, backpacking, and winter sports.

All Venturers in Dragonauts Crew 333 with Open Water Diver certifications are also dual registered to scuba SSS Phoenix Dragon 333.
