Avengers Academy: STEM of Scuba Diving with NAMOR The Submariner

Come join Scouts and Venturers of DRAGONAUTS CREW 333 and Sea Scouts of SSS PHOENIX DRAGON 333 on their Scuba Exploration in earning their PADI Open Water Diver certification.

This event is for YOUNG PEOPLE at least 7th Grade or 13 years old from any council regardless of gender who:

1. (a) has completed/earned the Swimming Merit Badge by 08/15/2025:
2. (b) currently registered with a Scouting America TROOP, CREW, or SHIP.

SCUBA MERIT BADGE REQUIREMENTS

REQ 2: Before completing Requirements 3-6, earn the Swimming merit badge.

REQ 4: Earn the Open Water Diver Certification from a Scuba Organization recognized by SCOUTING AMERICA.

BASIC OPEN WATER DIVER CERTIFICATION

Everyone will bring their own Personal Snorkeling Gear that is properly fitted to themselves on all pool and dive days. You may also purchase the gear on the first day of class. Budget $250 to purchase all 5 pieces.

The C333/S333 AVENGERS ACADEMY BASIC OPEN WATER DIVER PROGRAM is 24-hours of instruction in Class, Pool, and Beach Diving Sessions over TWO consecutive WEEKENDS with OVERNIGHT CAMPING.

You must be able to attend BOTH WEEKENDS as scheduled.

Cost includes

• Rental Gear: Wetsuit, Hood, Weight Belt, Weights, B.C., Regulator System & Tanks.
• PADI Open Water Certification Card.
• (2) Beach Dives on SATURDAY DECEMBER 27 and (2) Beach Dives on SUNDAY DECEMBER 28.
• SCUBA MERIT BADGE COUNSELOR MEETINGS on ALL FOUR DAYS.
• Event Patch.

Current Venturers/Sea Scouts will also receive the Scuba BSA Award once they have completed the requirements for the BASIC Open Water Diver Credential. Please follow up with your Crew Advisor / Skipper for more details.

1) MINIMUM REQUIREMENT IS TO (a) BE 13 YEARS OLD OR 7TH GRADE AND UP, AND (b) HAVE EARNED THE SWIMMING MERIT BADGE BY AUGUST 15, 2025.

2) EVERYONE will bring the following PERSONAL GEAR on POOL DAYS and DIVE DAYS. (Average budget is $250 to purchase your own - TRY NOT TO BUY OFF THE WEB - you should get fitted for these pieces in person or your open water diving experience may not be comfortable).

4) BASIC OPEN WATER DIVER CLASS DATES ARE: 08/23, 08/24, 08/30 AND 08/31.

• WEEKEND ONE IS 08/23 AND 08/24 are two 8 hour days at the Dive Shop Location from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. We will WALK THERE AND BACK TO CAMP EACH DAY.
• WEEKEND TWO IS 08/30 AND 08/31 are DIVE Days at a BEACH LOCATION TO BE DETERMINED ON SUNDAY AUGUST 24 from 7:00 AM - 1:00 PM. ADULTS WITH AB506 AND YPT/SYT ARE REQUIRED TO DRIVE YOUTH FROM CAMP TO BEACH AND BACK ON BOTH DATES.

5) There are NO REFUNDS - UNLESS THE ENTIRE SESSION IS CANCELED.

6) This is NOT a drop off for ANY MINOR. ONE ADULT CHAPERONE (25+) with YPT / SYT and AB506 Mandated Reporter Training must be present on site AT CAMP AND DURING THE ENTIRE DAY OFF SITE AT DIVE LOCATIONS.

**MAXIMUM RATIO IS 4-MINORS (13-17) TO 1-ADULT (25+).

7) THIS EVENT IS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 13-20 YEARS OLD WHO ARE REGISTERED PARTICIPANTS WITH A SCOUTING AMERICA TROOP, CREW, OR SHIP.

8) Waivers must be completed ON/BY AUGUST 15, 2025.

9) Scuba Merit Badge Counselor who is PADI Certified Open Water Diver will be present on all days at camp and at dives.

10) MAXIMUM DIVING GROUP SIZE IS 8.

ABOUT DRAGONAUTS CREW 333:

Founded in September 2021, Dragonauts Crew 333 is a diverse and inclusive venturing crew for all youth at least 13 years old in Southern California who enjoy STEM-based high adventures including dragonboat racing, whitewater, water sports, backpacking, and winter sports.

All Venturers in Dragonauts Crew 333 with Open Water Diver certifications are also dual registered to scuba SSS Phoenix Dragon 333.
