This traditional event is held annually to celebrate the transition of the beautiful seasons and to enjoy a peaceful moment with friends and family.

When?

October 4th, 2026 (Sun)

Session times (Each session is 45 minutes):

• 12:00 pm
• 1:00 pm
• 2:00 pm

*Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the event. We can not guarantee your attendance at the ceremony if you are late.

Where?

At the historical Kanso-An tea house in Hokka Nichibei Kai Building.

What is this event about?

This is an opportunity to experience an authentic Japanese Tea Ceremony and learn about its rich history and cultural significance in the beautiful Kanso-An tea house, one of the historically significant tea houses in the United States.

It will be hosted by a Japanese tea school teachers and students. A bowl of traditional Japanese Green Tea (Matcha) and Special Sweets (Wagashi) will be served. Participants can choose to sit on the Tatami floor to observe the movements and manners up close or enjoy the atmosphere with the comfort of bench seats.

*Tatami seats participants are expected to take off their shoes to enter the tea room with Tatami mats (white socks required) and refrain from dressing with clothes that may transfer fabric dye or damage the Tatami mats.

🧦 White Socks or Tabi Required

Guests entering the tatami room at Kanso-an must wear white socks or tabi (traditional Japanese split-toe socks). Please bring a pair with you.

👘 Clothing Advisory

Guests wearing Jeans or Cosplay are welcome on bench seating.
Seating on tatami mats is not available for these types of attire.
