Automatic Irrigation & Landscape Watering with Texas A & M
About this Event
Keeping a landscape healthy in North Texas shouldn’t mean wasting water—or your time.
NEW! With scorching summers, unpredictable rainfall, and heavy clay soils, an efficient irrigation system is one of the smartest investments a homeowner can make. Yet most systems in Dallas are either over‑watering, under‑watering, or watering at the wrong time entirely.
In this practical, easy‑to‑understand class with County Extension Agent Anne LeSenne, we’ll break down how modern automatic irrigation systems work, how to assess your own system for efficiency, and what adjustments you can make to ensure every drop counts. Whether you’re a DIY tinkerer or working with a professional, you’ll leave with the confidence to manage your irrigation system like a pro.
What You’ll Learn:
- Irrigation Basics: How sprinkler zones, heads, nozzles, drip lines, and controllers function together.
- Watering for Clay Soils: Why “soak and cycle” is critical in Dallas and how to implement it.
- Smart Controllers: How weather‑based and sensor‑driven controllers save water without sacrificing plant health.
- System Evaluation: Simple checks for leaks, pressure issues, clogged heads, overspray, and uneven coverage.
- Right Plant, Right Zone: Matching plant needs to irrigation zones to prevent stress and disease.
- Seasonal Adjustments: Month‑by‑month run‑time guidelines tailored to North Texas conditions.
- Conservation Tips: Drip conversions, mulch use, and irrigation‑free strategies that reduce water bills and support healthier landscapes.
This session will empower you to water more efficiently, reduce waste, and keep your landscape thriving—even through Texas heat waves. Perfect for homeowners, new gardeners, and anyone wanting to get the most out of their irrigation system!
