What Can the Public Expect?

The Blue Envelope Safety Experience is designed to be welcoming, interactive, and educational for individuals on the autism spectrum, families, caregivers, first responders, and community members.

During the afternoon, participants can expect:

• 💙 Learn About the Blue Envelope Learn how the program can help communicate important information during a law enforcement interaction and how it can be used as an additional safety and communication tool.
• 🚔 Experience a Mock Traffic Stop Participate in a simulated traffic stop in a supportive, controlled environment. Participants can see what to expect, practice communication, and learn how the Blue Envelope may be used.
• 👮 Meet Law Enforcement Make introductions, ask questions, and have conversations with officers outside of an emergency situation.
• 🚒 Meet Fire & EMS Get to know local fire and EMS responders, become familiar with their uniforms and equipment, and learn what to expect when they respond to an emergency.
• 🚑 Touch the Truck Explore emergency vehicles and equipment in a hands-on, welcoming environment.
• 🧩 Connect With the Autism Community Individuals on the spectrum and their caregivers will have an opportunity to interact with responders, share experiences, and help build greater understanding.
• 💬 Ask Questions & Share This is a chance to have conversations that don't happen easily during an emergency. Families can ask questions, responders can learn from the community, and everyone can gain a better understanding of how to make emergency interactions safer and less stressful.

Participation is encouraged, but never required. Individuals are welcome to observe, participate at their own comfort level, take breaks, and ask questions.

The afternoon is about creating familiarity before the crisis happens…because when responders and the people they serve already know each other, communication can be easier, expectations can be clearer, and outcomes can be safer for everyone.
