Men who are Making Green Bay was published in 1897. But what about the women? Lynda Drews recently uncovered two nineteenth-century Wisconsin women’s stories which have altered Green Bay’s history. In her Historical Nonfiction, The Maid and the Socialite, Lynda gives these brave women a voice to expose their closet abuser, the city’s famous surgeon. Midwest Book Review says, Lynda’s book is “written with the drama of fiction and the compelling research of fact.” Lynda’s talk will focus on her journey to unearth these women’s lost histories.
Prior to writing this book, Lynda gave the commencement speech at UW-La Crosse, her Alma mater. One lesson she shared was “to journal your life.” When Lynda retired from her thirty-year IBM career, she followed her own advice. Her first book, Run at Destruction, about her female running friend’s mysterious death, was the outcome. Publishers Weekly said, “The author and victim’s shared moments are remarkable,” and Netflix and the I.D. Channel both adapted her book into true-crime segments. Lynda is active in the Brown County Historical Society, the Brown County Community Women’s Club, and Write On Door County where she teaches classes.
