Join author Hanna Diamond, professor of French history at Cardiff University in Wales, for this exclusive look at "Josephine Baker’s Secret War," her celebrated book that reveals for the first time the full significance of Josephine Baker’s wartime contribution. Before World War II, St. Louis–born Josephine Baker was one of the most famous performers in the world. She made her name dancing on the Parisian stage, but when war broke out, Baker became a spy for the French Secret Services.
Drawing on previously unseen materials, Diamond illuminates the vital role in Baker played throughout the way, from counterintelligence work in North Africa to service in the French Air Force to her work across France, Spain, Portugal, North African, and the Middle East.
Following the presentation, Diamond will sign copies of her book, which will be available for purchase in the Sold on St. Louis museum shop.
