Author Talk with Snowden Wright

Snowden Wright is the current Author in Residence at Newnan Art Rez. Author of the novel American Pop a Wall Street Journal WSJ+ Book of the Month and NPR Favorite Book of the Year, he has written for The Atlantic, Salon, Esquire, The Millions, and the New York Daily News, and previously worked as a fiction reader at The New Yorker, Esquire, and The Paris Review. Wright was the Visiting Writer and Prose Faculty at the 2021 Longleaf Writers Conference, and his debut novel, Play Pretty Blues won the 2012 Summer Literary Seminars’ Graywolf Prize. He was the Recipient of the Marguerite and Lamar Smith Fellowship from the Carson McCullers Center. Wright’s latest novel is The Queen City Defective Agency.

He lives in Yazoo County, Mississippi.

Wright will discuss his development as an author, including how he came to write a novel about a bluesman who sold his soul to the devil, another about a family that made its fortune on soda pop, and, most recently, a fictionalized account of a real-life M**der case involving the Dixie Mafia. Wright will also discuss the role that arts residences, including many based in Georgia, have played throughout his career.
