About this Event
Author Talk - Steven L Herman
Steven L Herman will give a non-partisan insider’s look at White House news reporting and will read an excerpt from his recently-published book: “Behind the White House Curtain: A Senior Journalist’s Story of Covering the President and Why It Matters.”
Herman places the constant tension between administrations and the media into historical context. As he describes in his book, the challenges White House correspondents and the nation have faced in recent years are not unprecedented. Herman delves into his own formative experiences that led to being a White House correspondent and discusses the unique role of the Voice of America and what happens when there are attempts to interfere with journalistic independence.
He is the Voice of America’s chief national correspondent and has traveled to approximately 75 countries reporting on wars, revolutions, and natural disasters.
Herman appears frequently on major international TV and radio networks, including BBC, CBC, and CNN. His articles have been widely published, including in the “Harvard Summer Review,” the “Richmond Times-Dispatch,” and the “Wall Street Journal.” He currently is on the governing board of the American Foreign Service Association and resides in Stafford County.
