About Christine Platt
Christine Platt is a modern-day Renaissance woman whose work centers on honoring Black voices and lived experiences—past, present, and future. Author of The Afrominimalist’s Guide to Living With Less and the highly anticipated sequel, Less Is Liberation, Christine is recognized globally as a lifestyle teacher and trailblazer on how to embrace the power of ‘less’ to ease our overconsumption and overwhelm.
Since the release of her award-winning debut The Truth About Awiti, Christine has written more than two dozen books for readers of all ages; including her most recent influential titles Rebecca, Not Becky coauthored with Catherine Wigginton Greene, and the beloved children’s series, Frankie & Friends. Prior to her literary career, Christine served as an advocate and executive leader in the public and private sectors where each role underscored her unwavering commitment to representation and inclusion.
Christine earned her Bachelor of Arts in Africana Studies from the University of South Florida, Master of Arts in African and African American Studies from The Ohio State University, and Juris Doctorate from Stetson University College of Law. She is actively involved in several professional organizations including the Association of Writers and Writing Programs, Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, Association of Black Women Historians, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History; she also serves as an Ambassador for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.

About L'Oreal Thompson Payton
L’Oreal Thompson Payton is an award-winning journalist, author, and speaker whose work centers on encouraging ambitious women to prioritize their well-being and pursue their dreams without apology. She is the author of Stop Waiting for Perfect: Step Out of Your Comfort Zone and Into Your Power (BenBella Books, 2023) and the forthcoming memoir Infertile Black Girl (Beacon Press, 2027). Her first children's book, Amanda Gorman: Poet and Activist (Penguin Random House, 2025) will be released later this year.
With nearly 20 years of experience in newsrooms and national media outlets, L’Oreal has written for Fortune, Essence, SELF, New York Magazine, and Well+Good, among others. Her expertise as both a writer and editor has also made her a trusted voice on topics ranging from career growth to maternal health. She has appeared on CBS Mornings, NPR, and local television stations to share her insights and experiences.
In addition to her literary and journalistic work, L’Oreal is a certified yoga and meditation teacher and the founder of , a Black woman-owned bookstore and community hub in Evanston, Illinois. Inspired by the legacy of Zora Neale Hurston, Zora’s Place celebrates Black stories, creativity, and collective care through books, events, and cultural programming.
A proud Maryland native, L’Oreal lives just outside of Chicago with her husband and daughter, where she continues to write, teach, and create spaces that affirm and uplift Black women.
