NIU professor Molly McNett reads from her historical novel based on captivity narratives and Jesuit Relations from the eighteenth century. Join us at The Rogue Bookshop for a special evening with author NIU professor Molly McNett as she reads from her powerful debut novel, Child of These Tears, a searing and unforgettable exploration of memory, belonging, redemption, and grace. Reviewed in Books of the Year 2025 by New Statesman as "innovative and polyphonic, it touches on ideas about language, identity, faith and family." Molly McNett teaches creative writing at Northern Illinois University. Her fiction has appeared in The Best American Short Stories, the Pushcart Prize, and in a book of stories, One Dog Happy, published by the University of Iowa Press, which was a John Simmons Award Winner. McNett’s luminous storytelling traces the fragile boundaries between past and present, grief and hope, and the quiet, hard-won moments that shape who we become. This intimate event will include a reading, Q&A, and book signing, offering readers a chance to connect with a remarkable new literary voice.
