We fell hard and fast for Devin Elle Kurtz’s THE BAKERY DRAGON in 2024 when the first book was a lead title on our Holiday Gift Guide and since then our love has only grown! We are over the moon to host bestselling creator Devin Elle Kurtz at the store for the launch of her third picture book in the series, THE BAKERY DRAGON AND THE GIANT COOKIE (ages 3-8), perfectly timed for the holidays and filled with all of the luminous warmth and adorable dragon angst we’ve come to expect.
Devin will share the origin of this beloved character, as well as speak to her artistic process, before reading the book aloud and doing some live drawing on our easel. (These may be her first picture books, but she is a veteran background painter for animation studios and has illustrated the covers for many bestselling middle grade fantasies!) This event is geared towards families but educators and creators are welcome to attend. Her presentation will be followed by an audience Q&A and then folks will have a chance to queue up to get books personalized. We’ll have lots of copies of her books on hand for those looking to knock out holiday gifts!
Tickets come with a pre-signed hardcover copy of the new book. All attendees, including parents, must have a ticket. (Kids will need an adult on premise but they are welcome to browse on the adult side if they don’t wish to sit for the event.)

Devin Elle Kurtz is…the bestselling author and illustrator of The Bakery Dragon picture books. She's been painting in Photoshop since the age of two when her artist mom first offered her a tablet pen. Her magical scenes combine fantasy elements with environments that feel visceral and real. She has worked in the animation industry as a background painter/designer and visual development artist since 2017, including as the lead background painter on “Disenchantment.” She has illustrated book covers for many bestselling middle grade books, including The First State of Being, Juniper’s Christmas, and Dragonborn. Other past clients include Netflix, Disney, Mondo, Dark Horse, Wizards of the Coast, Gamewright, and Adobe. She lives in Pasadena with her dog, Kira, and thirty-three houseplants.
