ABOUT THE BOOK
Camille Perri has cemented herself as a treasured voice in the literary community. Her previous novels, The Assistants and When Katie Met Cassidy, earned praise from authors including Emma Straub, J. Courtney Sullivan, and Elisabeth Egan, and received glowing reviews from major outlets such as The New York Times Book Review, NPR, PopSugar, Elle, and the Associated Press.
This summer, Perri returns with SOCIAL ANIMALS, acompulsively readable, whip-smart tale inspired by her own transformation from reluctant pandemic dog owner to unexpected evangelist for the healing power of pets and community at a time when the loneliness epidemic remains in our social consciousness. Set in an affluent Maryland suburb where the local dog park functions as both battlefield and sanctuary we meet Val Caruso, Alex Reed, and June Kennerson. Val is a tough-talking private investigator. Alex is reticent, nervous and on the run from her past. And June is an athlete turned housewife whose true love is her pup. When Val is hired by June’s husband to find out if June is cheating on him, it sets these three women on a collision course.
A funny and sharp social commentary about community, privilege, dog ownership, and the ultimate power of finding your people (and your pets), SOCIAL ANIMALS blends sharp observational humor, warm emotional insight, and a twist-filled mystery as three women—with nothing in common except the dogs they love—find their lives unexpectedly, sometimes disastrously, intertwining. This is the perfect pet-friendly read!

BOOK REVIEWS
“Social Animals is a joy and a triumph. This heartwarming story of found-family features an endearing cast of strays, both human and canine, and reminds us that if we open our hearts and take a few risks, we might discover companionship—and ourselves—in the least expected places.”
—Elle Cosimano, New York Times bestselling author of Finlay Donovan Is Killing It
“Social Animals reads much like having and loving a dog. It’s funny, surprising, heartwarming, comforting and the entire adventure goes by much too fast and leaves you wanting to experience it all over again. I devoured this book and you will too.”
—Steven Rowley, New York Times bestselling author of Take Me with You
