Many locals may only know Matthew Turner's name because of the elementary school! Matthew Turner was an accomplished American sea captain, shipbuilder, and ship designer who is credited with constructing a total of 266 vessels. Out of these, 185 were built in his shipyard located in Benicia, California.
Hear about his remarkable contributions to the shipbuilding industry as local author H. Allan Gandy discusses his new book, Captain Matthew Turner: World-Class Shipbuilder. Books will be made available for purchase and signing. Cosponsored by the Benicia Historical Society.
