An evening with local author of 100 Years of Galt Arena Gardens: The Most Storied Arena in the World.
Cambridge author David Menary, shares his newest book, 100 Years of Galt Arena Gardens: a History of the Most Storied Arena in the World.
Menary's latest book delves into the 100-year history of Canada's longest continually operating area, Galt Arena Gardens. Menary covers the history of the arena as well as many of the players who spent time on the ice, such as Normie Himes and Gordie Howe.
After the event, Menary will have a table available to purchase books and have them signed by the author.
About the Author
David Menary is the author of 100 Years of Galt Arena Gardens: a History of the Most Storied Arena in the World. His first book, Terrier Town: Summer of ’49, won Honourable Mention at the ForeWord Magazine Book of the Year Awards in Chicago in 2004, losing out to Mark Twain's sequel to Huckleberry Finn. His second book, The River and the Railroad, chronicled the fictional adventures of two 13-year-old boys in the last year before the Great War. The setting of New Thunder was based on the Galt area.
A Cambridge native, he has a master’s degree in history from the University of Waterloo, as well as degrees from Western University and Wilfrid Laurier University. He is a longtime member of the Waterloo Historical Society. In addition to writing, he also enjoys painting. Some of his artwork has been selected for juried art shows at the Cambridge Centre for the Arts.
