Mo Nelson

I know firsthand that mastering your emotions can change the trajectory of your life. At 16, I was sentenced to 15 years in Pr*son. Instead of letting that define me, I chose to rebuild myself through emotional intelligence, discipline, and purpose. Today, I use that journey to empower others.
As a 2021 Perseverance Award Winner, Speaker, Author, and Reentry Coach, I specialize in teaching justice-impacted men and women how to harness the five key components of Emotional Intelligence—self-awareness, self-management, empathy, social skills, and internal motivation. These tools don’t just prevent recidivism—they create leaders, entrepreneurs, and community changemakers.
Through my Built Not Broken: Mastering Emotional Intelligence coaching program, keynotes, and partnerships with reentry organizations, I help individuals strengthen the intangibles that shape every decision, relationship, and opportunity. My mission is clear: to equip the justice-impacted community with the mindset, skills, and confidence to not just reenter society, but to redefine their future.
