About this Event
Auntie - Archetype is an interdisciplinary multimedia exhibition that examines the role of 'The Auntie' as a cultural archetype across communities.
'The Auntie' is a universal figure, embodying roles such as protector, nurturer, healer, and guide. In many cultures, this archetype shapes, guards, protects, heals and uplifts their people and cultural legacies. This project aims to honor and amplify the voices of all women, fostering a deeper understanding of their pivotal roles in shaping and guarding family, culture and community.
Auntie - Archetype will be curated by artist Kat Everett. Through this project Kat Everett will research, document, collect narratives, and invite artistic submissions across diverse cultural demographics from folks who are interested in exploring the concept of 'The Auntie,' her identity, and her role within communities. This work will culminate in an interdisciplinary multimedia exhibition, hosted at COCO Brown for Women’s History Month in March 2026.
Free and open to the public, the exhibition will invite visitors to contribute to the evolving narrative of 'The Auntie' through interactive public art activities and communal art installations designed for engagement and collective expression. Through participatory public art, visitors will be invited to join in the collective narrative making of the ever evolving Auntie - archetype.
