About this Event

Welcome to SF Scrap & Yap!

The monthly junk journaling, scrapbooking, crafty get together where we learn new things for our journals - then get to the important part - the Yapping!

This is our community’s 5th get together and this month's theme is Sliders & School Lunch.

For our August junk journaler's meetup, we will be learning about how to create interactive sliders in our journals! Create interactive spreads that are fun to show off! We'll start with a few minutes of instruction and then spend the rest of our time together scrapping and yapping - trying out new skills in a safe, friendly space with our growing community of junk journalers, scrapbookers, journalers, planners, and stationary lovers of all kinds.

This event is aimed at adults (the back to school part is nostalgic), children are welcome to attend with their responsible adult. Each attendee will receive 2 custom event sticker sheets, 6+ pages of event ephemera to work with featuring Miffy, School Lunch, Playground, and other nostalgic childhood elements. Plus each attendee has access to a scrap table full of goodies like scrapbook paper, stickers, washi tape, and pieces of ephemera, and more!- Sticker Sheets and Ephemera packs are provided by the event organizer Emily Vumeyer of @emily_made_universe / @junk.this.universe

This event typically is half beginners and half experienced journalers - we are a welcoming community that welcomes any skill level or background. Many attendees choose to return monthly and even develop new friends! We'd love to have you! <3

What we’ll do:

1. 10 minutes of learning a new Junk Journaling technique

2. Unlimited access to our scrap table with hundreds of stickers and scrap papers!

3. Scrap & Yap Journal time

4. Gallery Walk check out & learn from fellow scrap and yappers!

What’s included:

-2 themed sticker sheets

-6 pages of themed cut out ephemera

- Build your own scrap pack at the scrap table

- Instruction, a themed challenge, and a new community!

But I…

Don’t know how to junk journal/am a beginner!- That’s okay! Usually half of attendees are new to junk journaling and half are more experienced! We welcome all levels! Bring your journal and preferred supplies, or come as you are - we have journals for $8 or you can collage on paper.

Don’t have a friend to go with me!- That’s okay! Most attendees come alone and are happy to chat and make new friends!

We hope you enjoy a crafty evening filled with flaps, scraps, and yaps!!!

About the Instructor:

Emily is the creator behind @emily_made_universe, where she shares her love of junk journaling, collage, and all things paper magic. She has been crafting since childhood, turning what began as cutting up magazines into a creative practice rooted in storytelling through scraps. She is also the founder of @junk.this.universe, a small business designing junk journal supplies and a monthly zine meant to be opened, read, and ripped into your art. Emily loves bringing people together through creativity, and is excited to create a welcoming space for both beginners and experienced journalers to explore, experiment, and make something uniquely their own.

About Sunset Commons:

Carmen and Steven started Sunset Commons to provide a space to connect and build community through arts and craft activities led by talented local artists. Inspired by a love for creativity and a desire to foster connection in the Sunset District, we envisioned a “third space” where neighbors can gather, unwind, and form meaningful relationships. Our mission is to empower self-expression, boost confidence, and offer an inclusive haven for everyone, from introverts seeking a calm environment to those enjoying health-focused traditional teas. Sunset Commons is not just a business - it’s our way of enriching the community we love and to the city we both grew up in.

*Our events are often photographed and filmed so we can share the fun with our community. If you don’t want to be on camera, no worries—let us know before the event.
