More Than Just Sand: The Secret Life and Value of Sandy Beaches
Sandy beaches may look like simple stretches of sand, but they are vibrant ecosystems that support an extraordinary diversity of life while protecting our coastlines from storms and sea-level rise. Join Drs. Guilherme Corte and Yasmina Shah Esmaeili for an interactive field experience where participants will discover the hidden biodiversity living beneath their feet and learn how scientists measure beach health through surveys of organisms, sediments, and environmental conditions. The event will conclude with a discussion led by Drs. Virgie Greb and Ashley Ross on the social value of our beaches and the challenges we face in ensuring their resilience.
🤙🏼 Register: https://x.gldn.io/e/nq5yTHHYB4b (please register to help us with food count!)
📍 Location: Backroom of Beerfoot Brewery from 6 pm - 8 pm. At 6pm, we will meet on the beach in front of Beerfoot - meet us down there or walk over with the group if you arrive early and aren't sure where to go!
🌮 After an hour on the beach, we'll walk back over to Beerfoot and enjoy light bites. Bring some reusable plateware/utensils to help us cut down on waste.
Other topics for the evening:
• We have a donation match and a chance for 2 lucky ticket winners to attend Jack Johnson tour spot in The Woodlands this August! 🎶
• See what we will be doing for Ocean Friendly Gardens 🌱 later this year when it begins to cool off!
