August Book Choice: The Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch

Our August choice is an urban fantasy novel that follows Peter Grant, a rookie police constable in London. After interviewing a ghost who witnessed a murder, Peter is drawn into a hidden world where magic is real and works alongside modern policing.
Recruited by Detective Chief Inspector Thomas Nightingale (the last wizard in Britain), Peter becomes an apprentice in a secret branch of the Metropolitan Police that handles supernatural crimes. As he learns magic, he investigates a series of bizarre killings and navigates a city populated by spirits, river gods, and other magical beings.
Blending crime procedural with fantasy, the story centres on Peter’s efforts to solve the murders while uncovering a deeper magical conspiracy beneath London’s familiar streets.
Complimentary teas and coffees are available courtesy of Tesco. Join us to chat about the book and the themes it raises; we are a friendly book club and extend a warm welcome to new members. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.
