About this Event

August Nature Journal Club: Tuscany 12 Mile Coulee 🌿

Join us for a summer nature journaling adventure at Tuscany 12 Mile Coulee!

We’ll meet at the 12 Mile Coulee Off-Leash Parking Lot (GPS Coordinates 51.122395, -114.233733) where there is a parking lot as well as a nearby LRT and bus station. From there, we’ll take a short walk into the coulee and find a spot to settle in and journal. (Photos of the meeting point and parking/transit options are included in the description. PLEASE view these as there are two off-leash parking lots)

Tuscany 12 Mile Coulee is a wonderful place to slow down and take a closer look at the natural world. The area offers opportunities for bird watching, plant identification, wildlife observation, and exploring the small creek that runs through the coulee.

During this meet-up, we’ll also take some time to explore the often-overlooked importance of deadwood. Fallen branches, logs, and standing dead trees are far from lifeless — they provide food, shelter, nesting sites, nutrients, and habitat for a huge variety of organisms. Tuscany Coulee offers some great examples of how deadwood becomes an important part of a healthy ecosystem, giving us the chance to observe and journal about the many forms of life that depend on it.

No previous nature journaling experience is necessary! Whether you love drawing, writing, identifying species, or simply spending time outdoors, you’re welcome to join us.

What to expect:

  • 🌱 A short walk into the coulee
  • 🐦 Opportunities for bird watching and plant identification
  • 💧 A small creek and varied natural habitat to observe
  • 🌳 Exploring the ecological importance of deadwood
  • ✏️ Time to sit, observe, and nature journal
  • 🥾 Uneven terrain and natural trails

Come ready to slow down, get curious, and discover some of the often-overlooked stories happening all around us. 🌿📖
