Soozie Eastman is the Louisville Film Commissioner, the president of 502 Film and a documentary filmmaker and short film producer. During her studies at UofL (BA, Communication) and Chapman University (MFA, Producing for TV and Film), she developed a profound love for educating and inspiring people through motion pictures. Soozie has taught university-level courses in pre-production and was Director of Programs for the HUMANITAS Prize where she ran their annual judging season and award show honoring writers in television and film as well as created the multi-studio television pilot program for emerging and underrepresented writers, New Voices of Humanitas.

After working in Los Angeles for a decade+, she “temporarily” returned to her hometown of Louisville to shoot her first feature film and take advantage of Kentucky’s film tax incentives. Through her locally-crewed production and extended tenure as Executive Director of the Louisville Film Society which included producing the Flyover Film Festival, Soozie has created deep relationships within the creative community and has no plans to leave. She serves as Chair of the Louisville Film Commission and recently released her feature documentary, Overload: America’s Toxic Love Story. She is excited to work alongside the 502 Film Collective team to further the efforts of building Kentucky’s film industry and infrastructure.

Michael Fitzer Michael is an Emmy ™ award-winning Writer, Producer, Director of Photography, and Editor with more than twenty-five years experience in filmmaking and production and is a partner in the production company 180 Degrees. He is also the recipient of numerous Addy and Telly Awards, and of the esteemed Service to America award from the National Association of Broadcasters.

Michael recently served as production supervisor on the Netflix/BBC series “Wrestlers” which he also assisted the BBC in developing. He served as co-producer on the feature film Under the Eiffel Tower staring VEEP alum Matt Walsh, Gary Cole and Reid Scott and as producer and director of photography on the film Pleased to Meet Me staring John Doe, Academy Award nominee Aimee Mann, and Grammy™ winners Loudon Wainwright and Joe Henry. Michael also served as primary camera operator on the year-long PBS Frontline documentary Pr*son State for BAFTA-winning director Dan Edge, and as DP/Director on the KET documentary Violins of Hope. His work has been seen on national and international networks including Discovery, History, A&E, The Documentary Channel, iTunes, Netflix, and has been represented at major domestic and international film markets including Cannes, Berlin and Toronto. His screenplay Still Perfect won awards at both the Cannes Screenplay Competition and the American Movie Awards and his screenplay Music Therapy took home a second place prize at the New York Screenwriting Festival. Recent projects also include DP/Producer on the short film The New Hire, and DP/Director on the short film Nub City.

Michael was recently named a “Champion for Kids” by Kosair Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Hospital Foundation for his work against child abuse. He is a graduate of the University of Louisville, is currently pursuing an MFA in screenwriting from the Nauslund-Mann School of Creative Writing at Spalding University, is a former appointee of the Louisville Film Commission and is also a decorated combat veteran of the U.S. Army.

He is married to his wife of 25 years, Mary Lou and has two kids Ruby 23 and Sid 22.

James Michael Marshall is an actor, writer, producer, director well-represented by managers, entertainment lawyers, and agents in Hollywood. With a knack for pitching shows and crafting captivating decks and sizzle reels for projects, he's become well-versed in the dos and don'ts of the industry. His latest deck and sizzle reel are in the hands of a major network, eagerly awaiting pairing with an executive producer. While he maintains his artist residency for JCPS and Simmons College of KY, his heart remains in the hustle and bustle of the entertainment world.

Who is welcome:

All film and tv or theater industry, film enthusiasts and those just curious about the process. It benefits actors, crews, writers, producers and anyone interested in film and TV to better understand how the pitch process and business works. Presenters can utilize the opportunity to gather/meet crew, actors, etc from the audience who may be helpful to their project.

Why We Do This:

We want to see more Kentucky projects get made, but there is a lack of opportunities for creatives to learn how to really develop a script and refine it like they do in bigger cities via table reads and screenwriting groups and opportunities to pitch.

Every quarterly pitch event will feature a pitch session where chosen presenters will have 7 minutes to present their pitch decks to a panel of professional producers, directors, execs, investors and others with valuable feedback. (The panel switches up each time and the focus of the pitches are to gather feedback. If someone in the panel or audience take an interest in your project, GREAT!) Once the pitches and feedback are done, the audience may ask the panelists questions for about 20 minutes before open networking.

Submit Here to present your project at one of our events!

Check out our screenplay competition and monthly table reads where we read Kentucky scripts outloud and network!
