𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐖
𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑀𝑖𝑛𝑢𝑡𝑒𝑠 is a scathing dark comedy that takes place entirely during a single city council meeting. An ensemble piece, it combines small town politics, uncomfortable historic truths and real world power when a council newcomer questions the absence of the minutes from the previous meeting. 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑀𝑖𝑛𝑢𝑡𝑒𝑠 was nominated for both a Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award for Best Play in 2022.

- We strongly encourage performers of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, gender expressions, sexual orientations, body types, and abilities to audition.
- Age range and gender of characters is to appear on stage as.
- No prepared reading or monologue required; please be prepared for cold readings from the script (instruction, support and time with material will be provided).
- Script is available to read at the Box Office, but cannot leave the building. You are welcome to read in the Main Stage Lobby, Tue-Fri, 12:00 – 5:00PM.
- Please come prepared to fill out a conflict calendar at auditions.
- Rehearsals are planned to be 3-4 days a week until September 28.
𝐑𝐎𝐋𝐄𝐒
An ensemble of eleven adults to play:
𝐌𝐫. 𝐏𝐞𝐞𝐥 (30’s) – the newest council member, a pediatric dentist, affable, a “joiner”, returns from a two week bereavement leave to be confounded by the absence of minutes from the previous meeting.
𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐚 (50-60’s) – the politically savvy, charismatic head of the council, a 16 year council veteran and a master of social avoidance.
𝐌𝐬. 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐧 (30-40’s) – the hardworking city clerk who keeps the official council records, cautious, fastidious.
𝐌𝐫. 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐤𝐞 (40-60’s) – a smooth-talking African American politician, calculating, checks to “see which way the wind is blowing” before announcing his position.
𝐌𝐫. 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 (40-60’s) – a smarmy, off-putting, privilege-flaunting, but loyal supporter of the Mayor.
𝐌𝐫. 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐲 (30-50’s) – a passionate, well-intentioned council member with little influence, speaks verbosely, frequently mispronouncing words.
𝐌𝐫. 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞 (40-60’s) – the Mayor’s defiantly aggressive ally, a combative bully, vitriolic and bitter.
𝐌𝐬. 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬 (60+) – the second longest serving council member who offers history and perspective while focusing only on her own specific agenda items.
𝐌𝐬. 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐳 (30-40’s) – the Chair of the Rules Committee, flighty, skittish, easily distracted, sometimes erratic.
𝐌𝐫. 𝐎𝐥𝐝𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 (65+) – the longest serving council member, a rambling, cynical curmudgeon.
𝐌𝐫. 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐩 (40-60’s) – a diligent and inquisitive council member conspicuously missing from the meeting at the beginning of the play.
