We’re holding open auditions for our May production, THE INCIDENT ROOM - a gripping true-crime drama set during the Yorkshire Ripper investigation of 1977-81. The play blends tension with sharp humour, and brings to life a team of complex, engaging characters working under immense pressure. We’re welcoming enthusiastic performers and anyone who’d like to get involved behind the scenes, from stage crew and props to costumes, sound, and lighting.Key dates: (please note, some dates are to be confirmed!)
Auditions: Tuesday 6th January, Tuesday 13th January
Rehearsals: Every Tuesday, some Wednesdays, 8pm-10pm
Tech rehearsal: Saturday 25th April (all day)
Dress rehearsal: Saturday 2nd May (all day)
Performances: Thursday 7th, Friday 8th, Saturday 9th May
Characters (playing ages):
• Meg (25–40): Quiet, capable, straight-talking Police Sergeant.
• Sylvia (45–55): Glam, outspoken civilian worker.
• Tish (25–35): Stylish, bold reporter fighting the patriarchy.
• Maureen (45–55): Bradford woman and survivor, funny but traumatised.
• George (55–65): Old-school, stubborn but well-meaning Senior Investigating Officer.
• Dick (45–55): Driven, congenial Deputy SIO.
• Andy (25–35): Keen, naïve uniformed officer.
• Ridgway (40–50): Loud, energetic Manchester CID boss.
• Jim (35–55): Detail-obsessed senior officer.
• Terence (30–50): Nervous taxi driver wrongly caught up as a suspect.
• PC1 & PC2 (flexible): Small speaking roles with additional non-speaking stage work.
Other details:
Mild Northern accents will be needed, but auditions will be friendly and relaxed — no one will be pressured to try an accent if they’re not ready. We can work on voices together during rehearsals.
