The Bonnie Kate Community Theatre invites actors to audition for our upcoming production of Steel Magnolias, the beloved Southern comedy-drama about friendship, resilience, and the strength found in community.
Production Dates:
June 12–14 & June 18–21, 2026
Audition Dates:
Sunday, April 5 – 2:30 PM
Monday, April 6 – 7:00 PM
Callbacks (by invitation):
Tuesday, April 7 – 7:00 PM
Auditions will take place at the Bonnie Kate Theater in downtown Elizabethton.
Audition Format:
Actors will read sides from the script. These sides will be announced in advance and made available prior to auditions on the Bonnie Kate Community Theatre Green Room Facebook page.
No prepared monologue is required.
Rehearsal Schedule:
Rehearsals are tentatively scheduled April 20 – June 11.
Typical rehearsal times will be:
• Monday evenings
• Tuesday evenings
• Thursday evenings
• Saturday early afternoon
Not every actor will be called for every rehearsal.
About the Play:
Set in Truvy’s Beauty Spot in Chinquapin Parish, Louisiana, Steel Magnolias follows six Southern women whose lives intertwine through humor, gossip, hardship, and deep friendship. The play balances laugh-out-loud wit with moments of profound emotional truth, celebrating the toughness and tenderness of the women at its center.
Roles Available: (All roles are open)
Truvy Jones
Female, 40s–50s
Owner of the beauty salon. Warm, wise, talkative, and compassionate. The center of the shop’s social world.
Annelle Dupuy-Desoto
Female, early 20s
Truvy’s shy and awkward new assistant. Nervous and uncertain at first but evolves dramatically over the course of the play.
Clairee Belcher
Female, 60s–70s
A wealthy widow with sharp wit and impeccable comic timing. Elegant, observant, and delightfully mischievous.
Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie
Female, early–mid 20s
Beautiful, spirited, and strong-willed. She refuses to let her health struggles define her life.
M’Lynn Eatenton
Female, late 40s–50s
Shelby’s mother. Loving, practical, and protective. A woman of great emotional strength and quiet resilience.
Ouiser Boudreaux
Female, 60s–70s
The town’s famously cranky curmudgeon. Bitter on the surface but hiding a surprisingly big heart.
Additional Information:
• This production features an all-female cast of six roles.
• Actors of all backgrounds are encouraged to audition.
• Auditions are open to both experienced and first-time performers.
