All listed roles are open - Casting is open to everyone and newcomers are especially welcomed and encouraged. Crew volunteers are also needed. Auditions will consist of cold reading from the script. Please come prepared to tell of any conflict dates you have from auditions to week before show opens (no conflicts allows week of show opening). We encourage all performers to submit for any role regardless of ability, race, ethnicity, sexuality, neurodiversity, and similarity to the source material or original cast. Truvy Jones (female, 35-45) — Owner of the beauty shop. She is vivacious and wise beyond her years. She has a heart of gold but has been dealt some hard knocks. She offers advice with lots of hairspray and teasing. Will need to be able to be a believable hairstylist and manicurist onstage (will get training, if needed).
Annelle Dupup-Desoto (female, 18-24) — The newly hired assistant at the beauty shop. She is unsure and timid at the beginning of the play. Throughout the story she goes from timid to wild to very religious. Will need to be believable shampooing and styling hair onstage (will get training, if needed).
Clairee Belcher (female, 55-70) — Widow of former mayor. Grand dame. From a wealthy family, she is elegant, sophisticated, intelligent, and very witty. Best friends with Ouiser in a way that makes you wonder if they even like each other.
Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie (female, 18-28) — M’Lynn’s daughter and the “prettiest girl in town”. She is strong-willed, pretty, and passionate. She loves her mother but is not afraid to go toe-to-toe with her or any of the older women in the show. She is diabetic and has health complications because of it later.
M’Lynn Eatenton (female, 40-55) — Shelby’s mother. M’Lynn is practical, intelligent, and loving. She is a counselor at the Mental Guidance Center. She is passionate and stubborn about her daughter. She is the heart of the story.
Ouiser (pronounced Weezer) Boudreaux (female, 55-70) — She is a wealthy curmudgeon and southern to the core. She is acerbic but ultimately loveable. She has a sharp tongue and is sardonic, sarcastic, scathing and snarky, but is just masks the kind, caring woman that exists underneath. Ouiser is eccentric and quick witted.

Comedy by Robert Harling
Set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. The eager new assistant, Annelle assists the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispensing shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby, is about to get married. The play moves foward over years and we see all the ladies’ lives change with new experiences and tragedy. The women are affected, but draw on the underlying strength—and love.
