A comedy, set in Chicago during the Great Depression, tells the story of five upstanding church ladies who raise funds to send young Black women to college by holding bake sales. As their fundraising efforts start to decline due to the Depression, their latest beneficiary has more ambitious ideas on how to get the money.
Casting six African American women ranging in age from 20s to 50+ with good mobility. Singing ability, a plus. All roles are open and unpaid.
The audition will consist of cold readings from the script and a short movement sequence.
Performances will be on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm – March 7-8 and March 14-15, 2025; Sunday matinees at 2 pm – March 9 and 16, 2025. Cast are required to help with strike after the final performance.
