The Young Players are proud to announce auditions for Shrek The Musical JR! Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical JR., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical. It's a "big bright beautiful world" as everyone's favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek JR. is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.
Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek. One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he's handed a task — if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn't be complete without a few twists and turns along the way.
Directed by Matthew Burns, with Music Direction by Michelle Taylor and Choreography by Jillian Berry, Shrek The Musical JR. auditions will be held on December 8th from 5:00 to 9:00; they will be by sign up time only and in 4 minute increments. Auditions will be held in the choir room at Benton First United Methodist Church, 200 North Market Street, Benton AR., 72015. (Conway Street entrance)
Those auditioning are asked to prepare one minute of a song that is in the style of Shrek The Musical JR. Please bring an accompaniment track or instrumental track with you as a speaker will be provided for you to play it off of. If you have any accents that are similar to any Shrek character, we ask that you come prepared to share those with us as well.
The age requirements for this show are Kindergarten through 6th Grade.
Rehearsals will begin on January 12th with a read through and show dates for Shrek The Musical JR. will be March 12th through March 21st, 2026, with 2 shows on March 21st.
