Audition Dates: January 4th at 7pm and January 5th at 7pm.
Rehearsals: Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 7pm to 9pm, starting January 11.
Tech Week: March 8th - 12th
Performances: March 13 - 15 and 20 - 22
THE AUDITION
In lieu of monologues, I'm interested in hearing how you connect with the text and how you interpret it. The evening will consist of readings. If there is a particular side you'd like to read and you didn't get the chance to, let me know and we will make sure you do get to read it!
ROLES
The following is a list of roles in the play that include (very basic) character descriptions as well as potential triggering content.
HEDDA GABLER
Female identifying or non-binary actor.
Newly married and trapped by society’s expectations. Finds it harder to keep control of things as things progress. Possibly queer.
Triggering Content:
Depicted: Use of firearms, emotional cruelty, suicidal ideation, suicide by firearm.
Implied: Possible coercive relationship with Brack, emotional isolation, implied sexual manipulation, pregnancy.
GEORGE TESMAN
Male identifying or non-binary actor.
A kind academic, though perhaps a bit naive. Possibly queer.
Triggering Content:
Depicted: Loss of a close family member, tense domestic moments, loss of wife and possibly his child, possible coercive relationship with Brack.
Implied: Financial insecurity, job insecurity.
JUDGE BRACK
Male identifying actor.
Smooth and confident with shifting morality. Has no problem with manipulation. Possibly queer.
Triggering Content:
Depicted: Manipulative control, implied sexual coercion, exerting dominance by wielding his position in society.
Implied: Blackmail
THEA ELVSTED
Female identifying actor.
Gentle and kind, devoted to the end.
Triggering Content:
Depicted: Marital distress, emotional dependence on another, loss of person close to them.
Implied: Emotional neglect
EILERT LOVBORG
Gender non-conforming/non-binary actor.
Brilliant but complex and self-destructive.
Triggering Content:
Depicted: Intoxication, emotional collapse, substance abuse, suicidal ideation.
Implied: History of substance abuse, possible coercion, possible suicide.
JULIANA TESMAN
Female identifying actor.
George’s aunt. Warm and maternal
Triggering Content:
Depicted: Financial strain, subject to condescension, loss of a loved one.
Implied: Class/Gender expectations
BERTE
Female identifying actor.
The Tesman’s maid. Observant and anxious.
