About the Play:
A blues-inflected folk-rock score by music legend John Mellencamp and a claustrophobic, refractured parable from the master of horror Stephen King combine to create the passionate thriller, Ghost Brothers of Darkland County. At open, a leather-clad crooner known only as “The Troubadour” tells us the tale: In an eerie, swampy, lakeside cabin, Anna and Frank, a young couple, are trespassing. About to do what young people do in an abandoned cabin, our couple is confronted by the weathered and sinister Caretaker. The unsettlingly observant Caretaker tells of two brothers in the not-too-distant past, both in love with the same woman, and of the night of the county fair when a fateful shooting contest started an inescapable avalanche of jealousy and betrayal leading to a violent tragedy in that very cabin. Our young couple, suddenly keenly aware of the parallels with their own lives, find themselves locked in the tracks of the past as Frank’s brother, Drake, shows up to stake a claim for Anna. Well, history does have a way of repeating itself…but if the music and magic are just right, you might get a second (or even a third) chance to make your choices and see how it all plays out.
Note: This play contains adult themes, strong language, depictions of physical violence, gun violence, suicide, and sexual content.
