Synopsis:
When her father dies unexpectedly, graphic novelist Alison dives deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. Moving between past and present, Alison relives her unique childhood playing at the family’s Bechdel Funeral Home, her growing understanding of her own sexuality, and the looming, unanswerable questions about her father’s hidden desires. Fun Home is a refreshingly honest, wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes.
Audition and Callback Info:
Auditions will be held on August 16th at Cumberland Players from 11am-2pm and August 17th at the Levoy Arts & Education Center from 6:30-9:30pm. Callbacks will be by invitation only on August 20th (also at the Levoy AEC).
For night two of auditions and callbacks, parking is available either on Pine St or in the lot located off Buck St (with the mural on the wall). Doors will open 15-minutes early.

Video Submissions:
If you/your child are unavailable for either audition dates, the production team will accept video submissions until 9pm on Sunday, August 17th. Please send your audition video to [email protected].
Tentative Rehearsal Schedule:
Rehearsals will start the week of 8/24. The production team is looking to hold rehearsals three times per week until tech week. Schedule will be built AFTER CONSIDERING cast conflicts
Conflicts will be due by the END OF CALLBACKS so please plan ahead and ensure to have all these in order as we may cast based on availability!
Tech Week Dates: November 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 (November 13 will be an invited dress)
Show Dates: November 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23
What to Prepare:
Please prepare a 32-bar cut/1-minute selection of a song in the style of the show. You may sing with an accompanist or with an instrumental backing track (no a capella singing please). There will be a bluetooth speaker for your convenience at the audition!

ALISON — 43 years old, a cartoonist (Range: E3-D5)
MEDIUM ALISON — 19 years old, a college freshman (Range: G3-E5)
- Actor playing MEDIUM ALISON will also play one of the SUSAN DEYS
SMALL ALISON — around 9 years old (Range: A3-E5)
BRUCE BECHDEL — Alison’s father (Range: A2-G4)
HELEN BECHDEL — Alison’s mother (Range: A3-E5)
CHRISTIAN BECHDEL — Alison’s brother, around 10 years old (Range: C#4-D5)
JOHN BECHDEL— Alison’s brother, around 6 years old (Range: C#4-E5)
ROY — a young man Bruce hires to do yard work (Range: G3-A4 (opt. D#5))
- Actor playing ROY will double as MARK, PETE, and BOBBY JEREMY
JOAN — a college student (Range: G3-G4)
- Actor playing JOAN will also play one of the SUSAN DEYS
NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR:
My goal is simply to cast a group of individuals that realistically read as a family. I am strongly encouraging anyone of any ethnicity or background to submit for these roles.
Additionally, this will be an acting-focused production. It is more important to me that the room is full of strong thinkers, creators, and collaborators than just pretty singers. Please bring this mindset into your auditions.
For any children/parents considering the roles of Small Alison, Christian, or John, please refer to the document linked in the Google Form to determine your comfort level with the heavier material of the show.
Actors interested in playing BRUCE, ROY, MEDIUM ALISON, and JOAN should be comfortable with intimacy coaching for select scenes in terms of kissing, body contact, and undressing.
