The Alpha Players will be holding non-Equity auditions for their upcoming production of the musical, Sister Act!
AUDITIONS: January 19, 2025 (Sunday) starting at 1pm at the Florissant Performing Arts Center, #1 James J Eagan Dr, Florissant, MO (Call backs will be same day by invitation only.)
PERFORMANCE DATES: May 16, 17, 23, 24, and 25, 2025 at the Florissant Performing Arts Center
Auditions are by appointment.
Please prepare a 16 bar audition cut of a musical theatre song similar to the style of the show. (An accompanist and Bluetooth speaker will be provided.) A short dance combination will follow. This show is not dance heavy but some movement is required.
Call backs will be same day at 6:30pm by invitation only.
Those auditioning should bring a list of potential schedule conflicts between March through May.

Information about the show: Sister Act is the feel-good musical comedy smash based on the hit 1992 film that has audiences jumping to their feet! Featuring original music by Tony- and eight-time Oscar winner, Alan Menken (Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors), this uplifting musical was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
When disco diva, Deloris Van Cartier, witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won't be a found - a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but, in doing so, blows her cover. Soon, the gang is giving chase, only to find them up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood.
Filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing and a truly moving story, Sister Act will leave audiences breathless. The cast is chock full of amazing roles for women of all ages, making this a perfect choice for high schools and community theatres. REHEARSALS: Rehearsals will most likely three times per week (2 week nights and Sunday afternoons) beginning in March depending on cast availability. Please note, although not specifically stated in character descriptions the roles of Deloris Van Cartier, Eddie Souther and Curtis will be played by a performer of color.

Deloris Van Cartier
An aspiring performer, trying to find both fame and a place in the world. When forced to hide in the convent, she initially refuses to embrace her new lifestyle but learns to embrace it when she works with the choir. Loud-mouthed, and sassy, but ultimately caring.

The head of the convent, sarcastic and a bit stiff. Extremely protective about keeping her sisters away from the outside world, which puts her in direct opposition to Deloris and her musical teachings.

Sister Mary Robert
A postulant, abandoned as a baby and raised at the convent. Shy and soft-spoken, but singing with Deloris lets her find her voice. Her wallflower lifestyle has made her live a shell of a life.
