SHOW DATES
September 11-13 & 16-20, 2026
SYNOPSIS
From Music Theatre International:
Come From Away is a critically acclaimed musical featuring a culturally relevant script accompanied by a deeply moving score by Irene Sankoff and David Hein. The show has earned global success with 37 award nominations, 13 of which resulted in wins, most notably Best New Musical at the 2019 Olivier Awards and Outstanding Musical at the 2017 Drama Desk Awards. The show’s global presence resonates across all audiences as an uplifting reminder of humanity’s ability to come together, no matter what the circumstances.
Come From Away is based on the true story of the time when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland, played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small town turned into an international sleepover, when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from around the globe, were diverted to Gander’s airstrip on September 11, 2001. Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander cheered the stranded travelers with music, an open bar and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family.

Vocal Auditions:
1. Please bring sheet music in a binder, or a book, or a track on your phone, of 32 bars of an up-tempo or ballade that shows your vocal range.
2. An accompanist will be provided, as well as a speaker if you use a track.
3. You may sing a song from the show. There are possibilities listed below in the Character Breakdown and the music from the score is attached. There are only a few stand-alone songs such as “I Am Here”, “Prayer”, “Me and the Sky”, and “Stop the World”, which ALL are welcome to sing. The other songs listed with the Character Breakdown are short sections you may also use.
4. At callbacks, Susie will give everyone music from the show and teach harmonies, making sure everyone can hold their own vocal line. Some people might be asked to sing solos from the show.
Dance Auditions:
Please dress to move. All characters dance in a mostly folk style in the show.
Readings with Accents and Languages:
There are several different accents and languages in Come from Away. The actors ALL portray Newfoundlanders - their accent(s) sounds like a mix of Canadian and Irish - plus at least two other characters from different places. Here are some ways to listen and learn:
1. Watch/listen to the full Broadway production:

2. IDEA – International Dialects of English Archives – offers accents from around the world at your fingertips.
https://www.dialectsarchive.com/ Here are specific voices to listen to, and if you search for something on your own, find the oldest person in the list of recorded voices. Older folks have the most authentic and un-Americanized accents.
Newfoundland (All cast members)
(These recorded folks are from further southeast of Gander, but their sound works):

https://www.dialectsarchive.com/newfoundland-4
