The Dingle Drama Repertory Company 6+1 Acting & Improv Intensive is an audition-based training experience built around the intersection of acting and improv. Through six intensive weekends and one observational weekend, you'll train in truthful performance, emotional connection, character development, scene work, storytelling, collaboration, and ensemble-based creation.
This isn't about collecting techniques. It's about becoming a more connected, more confident, and more versatile performer.
You'll spend time on your feet, in scenes, receiving feedback, taking creative risks, and discovering what happens when preparation meets play.
Along the way you'll receive:

• Three private Zoom coaching sessions with Karla Dingle

Actors will strengthen their spontaneity. Improvisers will deepen their performance skills. Everyone will be challenged to listen more closely, respond more honestly, and bring more of themselves into their work.

ABOUT KARLA DINGLE
Actor | Improviser | Teaching Artist | Coach | Producer
Karla Dingle has dedicated her life to the stage, beginning her theater journey at the age of five and earning a B.A. in Theater from the University of Georgia in 1998. Since discovering improvisation in 2009, she has trained with renowned institutions including The Second City, Hoopla, and The Groundlings. Based in Charlotte, NC, Karla serves as the Education Director and Teaching Artist at Queen City Comedy and is an Improv Director and Acting Instructor at Acting Out Studio. She is also the Artistic Director of the Dingle Drama Repertory Company and performs regularly with Now Are the Foxes, Pillow Talk Improv, Close Distance Improv, and British American Experience.
As a teacher and coach, Karla’s pedagogy lives at the intersection of scripted and unscripted performance. Her work, shaped by her perspective as a neurodivergent, autistic, and disabled teaching artist, blends acting technique with improvisation to help performers access emotional truth, deepen listening, and respond instinctually rather than intellectually. She emphasizes vulnerability, presence, and whole-body listening—training actors to let emotion, impulse, and relationship drive behavior instead of planning or performance. Whether working in text or improvisation, Karla’s approach focuses on connection, emotional availability, and allowing the work to change the actor moment by moment.
Karla has taught students across six continents and has been featured as a guest instructor with international festivals and organizations including Impro Amsterdam, Improv Fest Ireland, Happy Valley Improv, Vintage Improv Festival, Highwire Improv, and the Bangalore Improv Community. In 2023, she was honored as a Theater IDA Artist-in-Residence in Zurich, Switzerland, and in 2025/2026 she was named one of the International Instructors for The Improv Boost’s Sudden Impact program.
Her students have gone on to work in film, television, voiceover, and commercial projects for major brands including Apple TV, CBS, Netflix, Amazon Prime, CVS, and Atrium Health.
