The Road Company is looking for non-equity actors for its upcoming production of “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” (A small stipend will be paid based on opening night sales.)
Auditions for Beautiful at The Road Company Theatre will take place on Sunday, July7th and Monday July 8th with Callbacks on Wednesday, July 10th at 405 S Main Street, Williamstown NJ, 08094. Please complete and submit this form prior to your attendance at the audition.
Rehearsals will begin Sunday, July 14th, 2024.
Rehearsal Days: Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays (Please Note: there may be some Tues and Thurs nights occasionally. And please expect nightly rehearsal from Oct 7th until show opens.)
Performance Dates: October 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 24th, 25th, 26th, 27th, 31st, Nov 1st, 2nd.
The Road Company Theatre practices non-traditional casting promoting equal opportunities for all people of color, race, age, disability, gender identity and belief.
WHAT TO PREPARE:
16-32 Bars in the style of the show. Women auditioning for Carole King must sing one of her songs.

SYNOPSIS:
Beautiful is the inspiring tale about a girl who became King with a stirring book by the late Oscar and Tony-nominated Douglas McGrath and the music and lyrics of icons Carole King, Gerry Goffin, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil. Featuring such unforgettable classics as "You've Got a Friend", "One Fine Day", "So Far Away", "Take Good Care of My Baby", "Up on the Roof", "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling", "Will You Love Me Tomorrow", and "Natural Woman", this Tony® and Grammy® Award-winning musical phenomenon is filled with the songs you remember and a story you'll never forget.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
CAROLE KING (20+ to play ages 16-29) An aspiring singer/songwriter. A unique, appealing, funny and vulnerable girl from a Jewish family in Brooklyn. Seeking an exceptional actress with a powerful, distinctive voice. Piano skills preferred but not required. Must sing a Carole King song for auditions. Vocal Range: Eb3 to Eb5.
GERRY GOFFIN (20+ to play late teens-late 20’s) Carole’s boyfriend, songwriting partner and eventual husband. An ambitious artist always striving for more. Seeking a strong actor who sings well. Vocal Range: D3 to A4.
CYNTHIA WEIL (20+ to play late teens-late 20’s) A songwriter who becomes romantically involved with Barry. Carole’s best friend. Although self-confident and sarcastic, she is also extremely likeable. Seeking an actress with strong comic timing who sings extremely well. Belt. Vocal Range: G3 to E5.
BARRY MANN (20+ to play late teens-late 20’s) A songwriter who becomes romantically involved with Cynthia. He is good natured, appealing & neurotic. Vocal Range: C3 to A4.
DON KIRSCHNER (40 - 60) An influential music publisher and producer. He is a fast talking, energetic force of nature. Vocal Range: A2 to C#4
GENIE KLEIN (40’s-50’s) Carole’s Jewish mother. Seeking a strong actress. Non singing role.
The multitalented ensemble will portray members of Carole’s inner circle as well as famous musical groups that Carole, Gerry, Cynthia, and Barry wrote for. There are many solo opportunities and ensemble is highlighted in this show.
NEIL SEDAKA/RIGHTEOUS BROTHER/ENSEMBLE (20’s-30’s) Caucasian, a singer songwriter. Vocal Range: A#3 to G#4.
NICK/RIGHTEOUS BROTHER/ENSEMBLE - (20’s-30’s) Caucasian, a singer songwriter.
LOU ADLER/ENSEMBLE - (20’s-30’s) Caucasian, a record producer
BOBBY VEE/ENSEMBLE - (20’s) Caucasian, A singer Vocal Range: C3 to C4.
BETTY/ENSEMBLE (20’s) Carole’s childhood friend
MARILYN WALD/ENSEMBLE (20-s) a singer. Vocal Range: top C5.
DRIFTERS /ENSEMBLE- (20’s-30’s) 4 Black Men, Members of the doo-wop group The Drifters
SHIRELLES/ ENSEMBLE (20-30’s) 4 Black Women, Members of the pop group The Shirelles
LITTLE EVA/ENSEMBLE (16-Late 20’s) Black Woman, Singer of Locomotion
