Calling all knights, princesses, jesters, ladies-in-waiting, and anyone who enjoys making audiences laugh! Join Jordan River Theatre Company for our summer production of the delightfully hilarious musical comedy Once Upon a Mattress!
A wildly entertaining retelling of "The Princess and the Pea," Once Upon a Mattress turns the classic fairy tale upside down with unforgettable characters, catchy songs, and nonstop laughs. In a kingdom where no one is allowed to marry until Prince Dauntless finds a suitable bride, a parade of princesses arrives at the castle—only to be rejected by the demanding Queen Aggravain. Everything changes when the unconventional Princess Winnifred swims the moat and turns the kingdom upside down.
Composed by Mary Rodgers, daughter of the legendary Richard Rodgers of Rodgers and Hammerstein, Once Upon a Mattress debuted on Broadway in 1959, launching the career of Carol Burnett in the role of Princess Winnifred.
Filled with larger-than-life personalities, witty humor, and memorable musical numbers, this beloved Broadway classic offers wonderful opportunities for performers of all experience levels.
✨ Whether you're a seasoned performer or stepping onto the stage for the first time, we invite you to audition and join us for this charming and hilarious adventure. With a variety of lead, supporting, and ensemble roles, there's a place for everyone in the kingdom!
🎭 Open auditions will be held:
📅 Sunday, June 21st and Monday, June 22nd
🕖 7-9 PM both nights
📍 Seton Home Study School chapel, 1350 Progress Dr, Front Royal
If you cannot make the scheduled audition dates but are interested in participating, please email [email protected] contact us as soon as possible to discuss alternative arrangements.
👑 Who can audition?
We encourage all interested performers ages 18 and up to audition, regardless of experience level.
🎵 What to prepare:
Please prepare and bring a Broadway or Broadway-style song that showcases your vocal ability. An accompaniment track (on your phone or device) is preferred—we'll have speakers available. Singing a cappella is permitted but not recommended.
If you prefer a non-singing role, please prepare a short monologue instead. Bring a performance resume if you have one, or be prepared to list any previous experience on your audition form.

🎭 Performance dates:
August 14–16
Please bring a list of any schedule conflicts you may have between auditions and the performance dates.
We are also seeking volunteers for choreography, costumes, sets, stage management, sound, lighting, and other behind-the-scenes roles!
