Audition Notice — Driving Miss Daisy
Old Academy Players [3544 Indian Queen Lane, Philadelphia, PA 19129; 215-843-1109; https://oldacademyplayers.org/] is pleased to announce the audition date for its 2026 production of Driving Miss Daisy by Alfred Uhry.
Driving Miss Daisy will be performed at the Old Academy Players theater located at 3544 Indian Queen Lane, Philadelphia, PA from June 12th-28th, 2026.
The show is directed by Carla Childs and Vanessa Ballard. (recent: Alabama Story, Wedding Band) and produced by Helga Krauss and Karen Taylor-Young.
Auditions:
Old Academy Players welcomes new talent! Please note: Old Academy Players is a non-profit community theater. All roles are performed on a volunteer basis. If you are auditioning for a show, please complete our Audition Form [https://oldacademyplayers.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/OAP-Forms-for-web_Audition-Form.pdf] in advance of the audition.
Audition Date & Time: Saturday, February 7th, 2026 at 1:00 PM.
Location of Auditions: Old Academy Players located at 3544 Indian Queen Lane, Philadelphia, PA. There is free parking onsite, located behind the theater.
Note: Auditions will be seen on a first come-first serve basis in the order in which individuals arrive. If you would like to audition, you should arrive and check in no later than 2:00 p.m.
Callbacks: At the discretion of the director, callbacks may be issued by invitation.
Audition Requirements:
• Audition in person onsite, on the listed date and time (NO VIDEO AUDITIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.)
• Actors will be asked to cold read sides from the show. Please contact the director if you would like us to send you the sides.
• Bring an UP TO DATE headshot or send an electronic headshot. (the paper photo will not be returned)
• Bring your theatrical resume.
• Please bring a list of any conflicts between now and the end of June.
Rehearsals:
Rehearsals will be scheduled after the play is cast, and will probably be in the evenings on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays, and on weekends in late May and early June. All rehearsals will take place on site at Old Academy Players.
Performance Dates: June 10th (preview performance), 12th, 13th, 14th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 26th, 27th, 28th, 2026. (Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., Sundays at 2:00 p.m.)
Additional performances may be added.
Characters:
*All roles are non-union, non-paying*
Daisy Werthan: (White, Female, Jewish, with a strong Alabama accent. She must age from 72 to 97.)
“Everything about her suggests bristle and feist and high energy.”
Hoke Coleburn: (African-American, Male. He must age from 60 to 85)
“A man clearly down on his luck at first, but anxious to keep up appearances.”
Boolie Werthan: (White, Male, Jewish, with a strong Alabama accent. He must age from 40 to 65.)
“A businessman, Junior Chamber of Commerce style. He has a strong, capable air.”

The Old Academy Players has provided continuous community theater entertainment since 1923 and is a non-profit community theater in the East Falls neighborhood of Philadelphia. Constructed in 1819, the Old Academy building has been the OAP home since 1932. Old Academy Players is a member of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance. Most notable alumni include Tony Award-nominated actor Robert Prosky and Hollywood icon, Grace Kelly. Support is provided by the "Philadelphia Cultural Fund" and the "Sylvia W. and Randle M.
