Announcing: Auditions for Livonia Community Theatre’s spring production of By the Way, Meet Vera Stark, written by Lynn Nottage.Directed by Lynch Travis and produced by Terie Spencer.

Where: Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church, 9601 Hubbard Street, Livonia, MI

Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Auditionees should arrive on time and expect to stay for 1-2 hours.
Performances dates: May 8, 9, 15, 16, 17.
Character Breakdown
Vera Stark: African-American presenting woman, an aspiring, then accomplished actor. Age range 30s-40 as play begins, is aged in later scenes.
Gloria Mitchell: White presenting woman, a fading diva. Age range 30s-40 as the play unfolds. Ages later in the play.
The following roles are double cast:
Lottie/Carmen: African-American presenting woman, 30s-40s. As Lottie, an aspiring, high energy actor. As Carmen, an intellectual/ academic expert on popular culture
Anna Mae/Afua Assata Ejobo: African-American presenting woman, 30s-40, who is passing as Brazilian as Anna. As Afua, an intellectual/academic expert on popular culture.
Leroy Barksdale/Herb Forrester: African-American presenting man, 30s-40s. As Leroy, a rakish aspiring musician. As Herb, an intellectual/ academic expert on popular culture.
Frederick Slasvick/Brad Donovan: White presenting man, 30s-50s. As Frederick, a powerful movie mogul. As Brad, a TV show host.
Maximillian Von Oster/Peter Rhys-Davies: White presenting man, 30s-40. As Max, a passionate film director. As Peter, a celebrity guest on Brad’s TV show.
About the Play
Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Lynn Nottage draws upon the screwball comedies of the 1930s to take an irreverent look at racial stereotypes in Hollywood. Vera Stark is a determined Black woman who works as a maid while dreaming of an acting career. The story centers on Vera’s tangled relationship with her boss, a white actress grasping to hold on to her stardom.
