Abilene Community Theatre invites you to audition for Butterflies Are Free by Leonard Gershe and directed by Tyler Sparks.

Young Don Baker, hero of his mother's Donny Dark books for children, has been blind since birth, his overprotective mother following his every move. Don finally decides to take his own apartment in Manhattan and pursue his songwriting ambitions. When she meets his kooky neighbor, sexy actress Jill, Mrs. Baker's controlling instincts go into overdrive, with hilariously touching results.

CAST LIST
Don Baker (20s): Blind since birth, Don is an aspiring songwriter and musician who is excited to be living on his own for the first time in his life. While he appreciates his mother’s protective nature, he is ready to experience a less-sheltered life. When his new neighbor, Jill, unexpectedly turns up on his doorstep one day, his life takes a very interesting turn.
Jill Tanner (20s): An aspiring actress, Jill is the epitome of the free-spirited flower child of the 60s and 70s. She finds herself fascinated by and attracted to her new neighbor, Don. While there is real chemistry and genuine connection between them, Jill’s flighty nature and fear of commitment cause rifts in their budding relationship.
Mrs. Baker (50s-70s): Mrs. Baker is Don’s overprotective but well-meaning mother and the author of the famous children’s book series Donny Dark. She does not approve of her son’s move to New York and certainly cannot entertain the idea of Don and Jill forming a lasting relationship. Abrupt and controlling though she might be, ultimately she has her son’s best interests at heart.
Ralph Austin (30s): The director of Jill’s new show, he is immediately enthralled with the aspiring actress and the attention she is giving him. After everything Jill has told him, he is genuinely excited to meet Don. However, his words and presence inadvertently threaten to drive Don and Jill apart.
