Schedule
Sat Feb 01 2025 at 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
UTC-05:00Location
427 Franklin St, Schenectady, NY | Schenectady, NY
— Appropriate length of an audition cut and how strict the “16 to 32 bar rule” really is.
— Connections between musical elements and dramatic elements in a musical theatre song, and how to use these to your advantage when selecting and preparing a cut.
— Finding the cut that will not only showcase your strengths, but that will allow you to show much more than your amazing vocal chops.
— Considerations with respect to the audition accompanist, from the pianistic standpoint as well as physical presentation of the audition cut.
— Whether to use sheet music from the original piano/conductor score, a libretto/vocal score, a vocal selections book or anthology, or musicnotes.com, and why.
Participants are welcome to bring any questions they may have on the topic, as well as prospective audition cuts. They will also work collaboratively to come up with an appropriate audition cut for a hypothetical audition.
