About this Event
SongRise Improv Choir is for people who love to sing and are ready to connect with a lively community of vocal explorers! There are no songs to learn—everything is created in the moment.
Laurel Murphy is your guide, leading the group in vocal warmups and explorations, then composing spontaneous grooves, rhythms and harmonies for the circle to sing. Standing in a circle, moving our bodies and stepping in time, we tune into each other as layered vocal parts and rhythms rise and fall—drawing on jazz, blues and world music, depending on the mood.
SongRise is about being in the moment and making warm-hearted connections through music.
Inspired by the work of Bobby McFerrin, this kind of circle singing doesn't require choral or improv experience. If you can sing in tune and bring a sense of curiosity and enthusiasm, you'll sharpen your ears, deepen your listening and be amazed at the music that emerges out of thin air.
Our October 6th gathering is a special half-price event, offered in our beautiful hall in Kitsilano.
You're also invited to join any of the regular sessions starting October 13th, running weekly on Tuesday evenings. Tickets for October to December or you can save money and purchase a pass. Info at .
