Atrophy – Thrash Metal Titans Reborn
Formed in 1986 under the name Heresy, Atrophy quickly made their mark on the thrash metal scene with the original lineup of Chris Lykins, James Gulotta, and Brian Zimmerman. The band, later joined by Tim Kelly and Rick Skowron, released two critically acclaimed albums on Roadrunner Records—Socialized Hate (1988) and Violent by Nature(1990)—and toured extensively across the U.S. and Europe with heavyweights like Slayer, Exodus, Suicidal Tendencies, Testament, Sacred Reich, and Venom.
After lineup changes and the departure of Lykins in 1990, the band faced setbacks, including being dropped by Roadrunner, and eventually disbanded by 1993.
In 2015, Atrophy reformed with a new lineup featuring three original members—Zimmerman, Gulotta, and Kelly—alongside new guitarists Casper Garret and Rich Olsen (later replaced by Bobby Stein). The band has continued to evolve while staying true to their thrash metal roots, culminating in the 2024 release of their third album, Asylum.
Now actively writing new material for a fourth album and arranging tours on both sides of the Atlantic, Atrophy remains a force in the thrash metal world. Known for their ferocious riffs, precision drumming, and intense live performances, Atrophy delivers a high-octane experience for fans old and new alike.
