Athens Shred Day 2026

BBB North Alabama, in partnership with Family Security Credit Union and Gone For Good, will host its annual Athens Shred Day on Friday, Oct. 9, from 9 a.m. to noon at Lindsay Lane Baptist Church.
The free, drive-thru event will allow area residents to securely dispose of sensitive documents, eligible electronics and unwanted medications. Services will continue until collection capacity is reached.
Gone For Good will securely collect documents and eligible electronics during the event. Depending on collection volume, documents may be shredded on-site or securely transported to Gone For Good’s Huntsville facility for destruction later that day. Electronics will be transported for secure destruction and responsible recycling.
Gone For Good is NAID AAA Certified, meaning their shredding processes and secure handling procedures for confidential materials meet the industry's highest security standards.
Residents may bring up to three kitchen-sized bags or three standard file boxes of paper documents per vehicle. Binders and plastic or metal materials must be removed before arrival.
Electronics weighing less than 100 pounds will also be accepted, including cell phones, computers, and most other electronics with a cord. Kitchen appliances, tube monitors, batteries, VHS tapes, microfiche and microfilm will not be accepted.
The Athens Police Department will conduct a medication take-back during the event. Prescription, over-the-counter and veterinary medications will be accepted. Needles and liquids cannot be collected.
