About this Event
As you wander through the cemetery grounds, our students will share fascinating stories about the lives and legacies of those buried here. Discover the tales of Revolutionary War veterans who settled in Athens, hear about the remarkable journey of Andrew Jackson Davison—the first Black attorney in Athens—and learn the significance of the unmarked graves. Explore the contributions of Black figures in our local history and the stories of war heroes who shaped our community.
The Athens Middle School students have collaborated with Invisible Ground, Appalachian Understories, Mount Zion Black Cultural Center, Southeast Ohio History Center, The City of Athens, Ohio University, and other organizations to inform their research and the content of this tour.
