In person and virtual options will be available.Did you know that the founder of the Pilates method, Joseph Pilates, was a boxer, among other things? His diverse background, which also included gymnastics and self-defense training, heavily influenced the creation of his unique system of exercise.
Pilates is, at its core, a set of intelligently designed calisthenic movements. These exercises are not simply performed in isolation; rather, they are intended to be precisely sequenced and integrated to form a complete and balanced workout. When practiced consistently and with the proper technique—focusing on core engagement, breath, and precise execution—this method offers profound benefits.
The primary goals of the Pilates method are to help practitioners build functional strength, increase flexibility, and significantly improve postural alignment. A cornerstone of the practice is the focus on achieving muscular and structural balance throughout the body. By working the deeper, often neglected muscles, Pilates aims to correct imbalances that can lead to chronic pain or injury, thereby balancing out both sides of your body and promoting overall physical harmony. Joseph Pilates originally called his method "Contrology," emphasizing the mental control over the body's musculature, which remains a key component of the practice today.
In this workshop, you’ll learn a sequence you can practice on your own to help create a more balanced and controlled body while focusing on breath and precision.
