Every Wednesday from October through June, starting at sunset the Lowcountry Stargazers host their weekly Astronomy in the Park event at Brittlebank Park weather permitting. Everyone from adults to little kids at all astronomical experience levels are invited to head on out to observe the night sky. Stargazers will be able to see Mars Jupiter Saturn the moon and maybe even some globular clusters and galaxies. “Its just another way of appreciating nature and appreciating what’s around us” says Jim Hoffman president of the Lowcountry Stargazers. If you still have a thirst for astronomical knowledge after this event you can also join the Lowcountry Stargazers as a member for $20 (individual) $30 (family) or $10 (student) a year. Meetings occur at the Atlantic Aviation center near the airport the first Thursday of every month and as a member you’ll be able to learn how to set up and acquire your own astronomical gear along with how to observe the night sky. You’ll also gain access to the Lowcountry Stargazer’s dark sky site at Johns Island County Park where you can bring friends and family for a night of observation and astronomy.
