Please join the Mt. Diablo Astronomical Society for our September 24 general meeting featuring Dr. Thomas Greene, an Astrophysicist in the Space Science and Astrobiology Division at NASA’s Ames Research Center, who will discuss the NASA Habitable Worlds Observatory. The HWO is now being designed to find Earth-like planets and search their atmospheres for signs of life. Much has been learned about the over 5,000 planets discovered to be orbiting nearby stars, but we have found very few Earth-sized ones around stars like the Sun. Dr. Greene will describe HWO’s science goals, its current scientific and technical development activities, and the strategy for involving thousands of people in its creation from now until it launches in the 2040s.The meeting starts at 7:15 p.m. with a short “What’s Up?” presented by MDAS member Kent Richardson, who will talk about a visit to the Very Large Array telescope in Mexico. Our meetings are held in the Lindsay Wildlife Experience Community Room, 1931 First Avenue, Walnut Creek, CA 94597
