If you’ve been wanting to learn astrology, but don’t know where to start, then this is the course for you! We’re going to deep dive into everything you need to know to get up and running with the stars, including chart interpretation, giving readings, natal astrology, and more!We will learn about the planets, the signs, medical astrology, the 4 elements, modalities, planetary dignity, aspects, intuition, and so much more. By the end of the course, you’ll know how to use astrology to uncover a deeper sense of wisdom and meaning, and understand how to align yourself with the energies of the cosmos.
Professional astrologers Lori Kaufman and John Selig are going to take you through everything you need to know to understand the planets, the stars, and how they affect your life. Lori specializes in a more traditional, Hellenistic approach to astrology, whereas John has studied with teachers from several traditions. We will be focusing more on the traditional Hellenistic practice, but we’ll be blending in some more contemporar techniques as well—especially modern planets and asteroids. Together, we’ve got over twenty years of experience!
This course is perfect for all levels—beginners are welcome! This 6-part series will teach you a method for breaking down an astrology chart in a way that is simple and easy to understand, but FULL of incredible information! By the end of the 6 weeks, you will be able to feel confident in your intuition, knowledge, and ability to begin to interpret charts and get better insight on yourself and those around you!
Class 1 will introduce astrological basics such as elements, modalities, polarity, and more. We will start by talking about the different approaches to astrology, including the traditional and the more modern takes we see in popular culture today. We’ll give you key terminology and concepts, as well as some basics that will help you to orient when looking at all of the symbols in the chart and in the sky. If you’ve never pulled an astrology chart before, this is where you’ll learn to do it!
Class 2 will introduce you to the planets of the solar system—yes, even Pluto. We take a deep archetypal approach to understanding both the inner planets and the outer planets: Mars the warrior, Venus the lover, Mercury the messenger, and beyond.
Class 3 will ground you in the symbols of the astrological signs; you probably already know whether you’re “an Aries,” or “a Scorpio,” but did you know that your astrological sign is only one small piece of the puzzle? Here we’ll look at the signs themselves, and how planets show up differently in each sign—this is where the psychological aspects of astrology really come into focus! We’ll also learn about the essential dignity of the planet: how happy or unhappy each planet is in your chart.
Class 4 will introduce the astrological houses: this is the part of the chart that can help you to know whether a planet will affect relationships, career, family, etc. Understanding the houses can make astrological readings much clearer, and we’ll look at other factors including planetary joys, sect, and the angles.
Class 5 will focus on aspects: the relationships between the planets in your chart. If two planets are conjunct—next to each other, that energy will show up very differently than if they’re directly across from each other in the sky. We’ll also look at more advanced concepts like bounds, degree theory, the nodes, moon phases, and eclipses—these can all add interesting dimensions to your readings.

Class 6 is about bringing it all together: now we’re ready for the full chart interpretation, where we bring all these concepts together to bring out the deepest meanings hidden in a chart! We’ll also add in one more advanced technique: working with house rulerships. This allows for much more subtlety and accuracy in your readings. We’ll provide several charts to look at, and opportunities for practice!
Workshops will be 6 back to back Tuesdays:
November 12th-December 17th from 6-8-8:30pm,
(with an optional additional workshop on working with the asteroids on December 15th)
We will end each class as close to 8 as possible with a little room for questions and excess information. We recommend planning on staying a little late each week just in case.
The workshop includes:
-A copy of Lori’s book "Breadcrumbs from the YOU-niverse"
-A packet that has been designed and created for this course that includes all of the coursework, handouts, guides, a copy of your chart, journal prompts, and homework
-Recommendations to listen to specific episodes of Lori’s podcast “Conversations with the Planets” to dive deeper into some of the topics as we go.
-A Whatsapp group will be created for the class to communicate during the duration of the program
- All recorded episodes will be posted in this chat so if you miss a class you can get caught up. This means the course can be taken fully online/remote as well!
-20% off any personal readings with Lori and/or John during the 6 weeks
