Assume We Can: Reimagining Community Support for South Asian Women in STEMM

Join Lotus STEMM & Campfire Kinship for an interactive, in-person community workshop exploring how we can collectively create more inclusive pathways for South Asian women in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine).

Communities shape the environments where young women grow, learn, build confidence, and envision their futures. From cultural organizations and faith groups to mentors, neighbours, volunteers and local leaders, community members play an important role in influencing belonging, opportunity and aspirations.

Drawing on insights from Lotus STEMM's Assume We Can: Breaking Barriers; Build Opportunities research initiative, this workshop explores how community spaces can either reinforce barriers or become powerful places of encouragement, connection and opportunity for South Asian women and girls.

Through story-based learning, guided reflection, and collaborative discussion, participants will explore how community norms, networks and everyday interactions influence educational and career pathways and how each of us can contribute to building more inclusive and supportive communities.

Using a meta-reflexive approach, participants will be invited to move beyond individual experiences and consider the broader cultural narratives, assumptions and systems that shape opportunities across generations.
