Asraya is a Sanskrit word meaning refuge, sanctuary, or home. It’s a visualization technique that creates a somatic sense of peace and wellbeing in the body. This practice has been used for thousands of years, shared though the teachings of yoga nidra. Some of the physical benefits of relaxation:
* reduces inflammation in the body
* reduces muscle tension & eases chronic pain
* improves digestion
* facilitates cellular repair and regeneration
* lower blood pressure
* higher quality of sleep
* more hormones & neurotransmitters that make you feel good
Asraya, also called Inner Refuge or Inner Resource, is a beautiful companion practice for times of stress, anxiety, grief, anger, fear, and sadness. Psychologist and founder of the iRest style of yoga nidra, Dr. Richard Miller, found positive outcomes when using this technique to treat depression and PTSD.
In this workshop, you’ll create a unique Inner Refuge through a guided art activity. Then, experience yoga nidra guidance to deeply relax and rest within your Inner Refuge.
Cost to participate is $35. Fee includes art supplies, access to a printable workbook, and a recorded meditation so you can practice this technique at home. There are mats, yoga bolsters, and blankets available at the studio. You might like to bring an eye covering and any of your favorite cozy items for the guided meditation. (Previous participants brought fuzzy socks, a small pillow, a favorite blanket, and crystals!)

What is our community saying about yoga nidra with Kate?
“This was my first time doing yoga nidra, and I’m so glad Kate was the one guiding me. She is super skilled at creating a space where everyone feels safe to connect with their body and spirit. I look forward to another session and entering back into the trance from today.” K.Z.
